Who We Are
We are an organization of homeschool families that love the outdoors and value learning and playing in nature. We help homeschoolers connect with each other and create opportunities for amazing adventures in and around Louisville, KY. We value child-led play, mixed-age play groups, and awe inspiring natural areas. Our goal is to help homeschool families get outside and make friends while there.
What We Do
We meet twice a week at various outdoor locations in and around Louisville. Our current schedule is Mondays and Thursdays from 1 pm to 4pm. Free play and socialization is the main goal. We sometimes provide materials that the children can use with the goal of learning a new skill or developing knowledge, or a short activity, but participation in all our offerings is voluntary and there is no pressure to join in. Some activities we have done include: basket weaving, scavenger hunts, hiking stick painting, wand making, and dream catcher weaving. Often the children will continue with their own self chosen play and we honor and value that.
Field Trips
We schedule field trips 1-2 times a month that are more structured and may be at earlier times. Some of our previous field trips include:
The Little Loomhouse
Bernheim Forest
Squire Boone Caverns
Second Chances Wildlife Center
Salato Wildlife Center
Locust Grove
Idelwild Butterfly Farm and Insecarium
Mulberry Orchard
Our locations change weekly, you will need to be a member of our group to see our schedule and be notified of meetup locations.
We take seasonal breaks mid-summer, Thanksgiving week, and 1-2 weeks for winter holidays.
We are not a drop off program. Children will need to attend with an adult.
Most of our families are homeschoolers but this is not a requirement for membership.
Attendants must have read and comply with our Community Agreement.
Things to Know:
Our membership fee is currently $60 per year per family.
Each child is the responsibility of the adult that brought them to the meet-up.
Our members are typically families with children ranging from preschoolers through to middle-schoolers, but there are no age requirements.
Participation in activity offerings is encouraged, however children may choose to continue in their own play and we honor and value that.
